A Great Depression
Megan Cope’s sculpture A Great Depression (2024) stretches and undulates across the gallery wall.
Stretching seven metres wide, the work evokes a natural landscape and confronts the viewer with its form, size and strength.
The work's title refers to the cartographic term 'depression', which describes elevations and low points of the land or sea bottom.
Composed of thousands of oyster shells which have been meticulously cleaned, prepared and woven together by hand, the work brings the saltwater world and its landscapes to the fore.
